Amazon.ca Product Description
| A single player, action platformer, Secret Agent Clank revamps the fun and frantic gameplay of the original PSP version for players on the PlayStation 2. Featuring a storyline centered around Clank as you have never seen him before, as well as a wealth of weapons and gadgets, multiple superspy vehicles, three different playable characters, and multiple gameplay styles, it is destined to be a fan favorite both with longtime fans of the Ratchet & Clank franchise and those coming to it for the first time. Wield super spy weapons and gadgets like the 'tie-a-rang'. View larger. | Enjoy varied gameplay styles. View larger. | Assume one of three playable characters. View larger. | Story Clank’s on a mission. His best buddy, Ratchet, has been framed by a ruthless enemy and jailed for a crime he did not commit. Not only that, but Ratchet’s maximum security prison is full of the universe’s most dangerous criminals most of whom are lining up to personally âwelcome’ Ratchet into his new cell. Luckily for Ratchet he’s got Clank on the outside, and luckily for Clank he’s the kind of brainy little robot who is cool under pressure and knows a thing or two about tracking down a mysterious enemy. That’s why, as Secret Agent Clank, he’s hot on the trail of clues to unravel the mystery and secure Ratchet’s release from jail. Gameplay, Weapons and Gadgets Although Secret Agent Clank contains the ability to play not only as Clank, but also Ratchet and Captain Qwark, gameplay action is sharply focused on Clank, and that gameplay is not like any players have seen before. Unlike in earlier releases in the Ratchet & Clank franchise in which Clank was limited to mostly puzzle-solving action, in Secret Agent Clank Clank is a full-fledged action hero with the ability to wield all manner of weapons and gadgets. Just a few of these are: | Tie-a-rang A superspy can keep his most deadly weapon tucked right under his chin. Thrown Tie-a-rangs contain rudimentary AI that seek multiple targets as long as their servos continue to operate. | | Agency PDA The Agency PDA allows access to remote ammo anywhere in the galaxy. Equip and then activate it for all of your stealthy needs. Note: Direct matter transport increases the cost of supplies. | | Thunderstorm Umbrella The agency has found that being able to control the weather can be useful. The Thunderstorm Umbrella can channel powerful lightening strikes from its tip that leave any robot reeling. | | Holomonocle Although unfashionable, the Holomonocle’s utility far outweighs the fashion faux pas. It allows the wearer to create a holo-projection of another robot to effectively disguise the wearer. | Key Features: - Enjoy the improved visuals, camera and controls for this new PlayStation 2 game version.
- Take hordes of enemies out using Clank’s unique martial art â Clank Fu!
- Unleash Clank’s cutting edge array of weapons and gadgets, such as cufflink bombs, tie-a-rangs, blackout pen and the ever-helpful halo-diguise monocle.
- Drive state-of-the-art superspy vehicles.
- Launch into a variety of gameplay styles from all-out action to cunning stealth and brain-busting puzzle solving.
- Play as Clank, Ratchet and even Captain Qwark to gather enough evidence to set Ratchet free and discover who framed the innocent Lombax....

| Customer Reviews: Delivers some fun, but lacks the impressiveness of other titles in the series. November 11, 2009 S. Bouley (Ontario, Canada) Secret Agent Clank for PS2 is a PSP port of a game set the in the universe of my favourite gaming franchise Ratchet and Clank.
In this title, you play as the little robot side-kick, Clank, for the majority of the game. The levels are usually broken up into 3 parts, which typically follow the pattern where you play the first 2 parts as Clank, then the last part as either Ratchet or Captain Qwark.
Clanks levels are a mix of platforming, combat, and basic switch puzzles. There will also be the odd vehicle driving or snowboarding mission. Clank is equipped with a decent selection of weapons, although they lack some of the flare I've come to expect from the series. Offensive weapons include saw-blade-tipped-bow-tie-a-rangs, robot-eating plants, and cuff link bombs. Defensive gadgets include dropping a beacon to attract enemy fire, a holo-projector to disguise yourself as enemies, and an ink pen to black out laser beam emitters. If you prefer a more stealthy approach, you can also take out your enemies undetected (most of the time) by going through a brief four button quick time event.
All of your defensive weapons can also be upgraded, but they don't seem to really behave too differently, with the exception of being stronger.
During his missions Clank will come across locked doors that he must open by playing a mini game that made me thing of a cross between Tetris and Bejeweled. He'll also find himself in various situations where a rhythm game will be the key to success. Although I can appreciate the attempt to mix things up, these last two mini-games in particular got pretty old with me rather quickly.
Occasionally you'll swap out Clank to play as the Gadgetbots instead. This trio of mini-robots focus on completing switch puzzles, and helping each other get to various areas of a level.
Meanwhile, unjustly locked away in a prison after being framed, is Ratchet. His levels are arena battles where he must fight off bad guys for a certain number of rounds, sometimes with a time limit. I find it didn't really fit the story too well, and was just put in for some faster paced shooting action, which was welcomed. Ratchet's weapons are a little more interesting, but still bring nothing new to the table. A few guns, the walloper punch, and the plasma whip, are all present, and upgradeable. You can also purchase mods for each weapon to add to their usefulness.
The final playable character in the game is the always entertaining Captain Qwark. He spends his time following Clank from location to location after he has cleared the area, and takes credit for the action by inventing stories of grand battles to highlight his strength and courage. The fictitious tales are being told to Qwarks biographer, and consist of rescuing space nuns, fighting monsters Godzilla Style, and recreating the events as part of an opera. The humour brought to these stages are welcome, as for the most part all Qwark will be doing is punching, and shooting his ray gun a lot.
Considering that it's a PSP port, the game has a decent length, which will probably be extended for players, as there's a good chance you'll want to replay some previous stages so you can level up Clank and your weapons to take on a formative set of opponents in the final fight.
Once you have beaten the main story of the game, there will still be bonus missions to complete, skill points to earn (if you can figure out what you need to do to get them) and platinum bolts to find. You can then start the game all over again with all your upgrades and weapons intact, if you didn't get enough the first time around. All of this does help add some replay value, although I didn't feel compelled to take advantage of the features right away.
The game does work, and it is fun enough, but High Impact seems to have gone to the Big Guide to Making Platformers, and just went through the checklist of "Common Things to Put in Your Game", (including "A camera that's not always helpful"). There's a lot of feeling retained from the original string of games, just not all of the style and brilliance.
