I love it when someone comes from nowhere and completely redefines how you listen to a certain genre of music. Nuno Canavarro, Autechre did it to electronic music. Arvo Part, Steve Reich, Penderecki to classical. Esbjorn Svensson Trio to jazz. Talk Talk, Radiohead and... Patrick Watson - rock? What? Where? Who is Patrick Watson? Well, let me tell you, I have no idea who Patrick Watson is. But I sure treasure this album. The first thought on the first listen of the first song was 'indie rock'. And it was filed appropriately, and I didn't return to it for a few months. Then I listened to it again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again. and again.and again. and again. and again. and again.and again. and again. and again. and again.

I was disappointed when Feist didn't win the 2007 Polaris Music Prize, but immediately bought Patrick Watson's album to find out why he won. Now I know. This is great stuff.
Excellent moody yet exciting album March 24, 2007 A. Winther 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I first heard of Patrick Watson by seeing his video for "The Great Escape" late at night on TV. I knew instantly that I had found something special. I bought this album (and some concert tickets to an upcoming show), and it has been steadily growing on me since. The first two tracks should take you back to the good ol' days of listing to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", but it will quickly take a different route with a collection of tracks including the amazing "Drifters." If you like Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, even Radiohead, your bound to find something you like in here. Definitely check it out.
excellent album January 30, 2007 ge-ge (Quebec, Quebec) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Le genre d'album que l'on apprecie a la premiere ecoute mais que l'on aime de plus en plus au fil du temps. Rempli de subtilites, de moments d'une grande beaute, de finesse. J'adore, vraiment un des meilleurs de l'annee. The kind of album you like on first sight but then you learn to love if you listen to it over and over again. Beautiful music. Definitely one of the best of the year.
