Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Connect your appliances into the Kill A Watt, and assess how efficient they are. A large LCD display counts consumption by the Kilowatt-hour just like utility companies. You can figure out your electrical expenses by the hour, day, week, month, even an entire year. Monitor the quality of your power by displaying Voltage, Line Frequency, and Power Factor

5 out of 5 stars Killawatt Review   October 9, 2008
R. Dorn
I think this is a very useful device. After receiving a $775 utility bill, I had to do something to find out where the excess power was going. This device helped me identify which electrical devices were consuming the most power.

I would strongly recommend the purchase and use of the Killawatt.

5 out of 5 stars Performs exactly as expected   October 9, 2008

I was able to plug it in and use it right out of the box. It was simple enough to use I didn't need to refer to documentation. Assuming it is reporting accurate power usage, it is exactly what I wanted.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent device for the price.   October 9, 2008

This a great device for tracking electrical power usage. I was surprised that it is able to report current usage above the 15 amp rating. In this condition, it sounds an alarm. You an read the amps being consumed. I was able to read a 17 amp draw. It will get hot and shut down if left too long. If you read the volts and amps, you can calculate the watts. With that you can compute the KWH for a devices slightly over 15 amps.

All of this is not the way to use the device, but it is nice to know that it has an alarm when it is being used at power loads above its rating.

I would like to see a 20 amp version of this device.

I can see how the model with memory would be nice. But this works and does the job. You just have to get your readings before you unplug it.

Cheers,
Al Lococo

4 out of 5 stars What a great device!   October 6, 2008

This device will tell you how many kilowatts it takes to run an appliance. With a few calculations you can see how much a month your electrical appliances are costing you. My shop mini fridge ($4.00) a month, my pool pump at 12 hours a day ($45.00)a month.

This is actually my second kill a watt monitor I burned the first one up on my pool pump which exceeded the recommended amperage.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, helped me save $10 per month   September 29, 2008
Jim P (Leesburg, VA)
This product was very helpful, on the first day, I went through the whole house including the garage and checked every outlet. in some cases I needed an extension cord to be able to use the tester over a period of time. You can set it up to calculate how much energy is used over a period of time like an hour or several hours. I noticed that by turning off the directTV box with DVR that we could save over 100 watts per hour. We used to leave it on all the time but not any more. Also an ordinary DVD player used over 100 watts per hour in standby mode, it looked like it was off but still used energy. we used a power strip and turned the switch off. I was surprised that a window air conditioner used almost the same amount of energy between low medium and high. Some computer related stuff like monitor, printer, cable modem, etc used energy all through the night even when we weren't doing anything. there is a power strip device that senses how much energy is being used during normal operation and when you turn it off, it will power down the other outlets. I will be buying that next.
